La Syndicaliste tells the true story of Maureen Kearney, a trade union representative at a French multinational nuclear company who becomes a whistleblower. After exposing secret deals that rattled the French nuclear industry, she campaigns against government ministers and industry leaders to protect tens of thousands of jobs. Her life is upended when she is found assaulted in her own home, bound and with no clear memory of what happened. As investigators look into the attack, evidence emerges that casts doubt on her account, and she shifts from victim to suspect.
Jean-Paul Salomé directed and co-wrote the film with Fadette Drouard. It followed his earlier features Arsène Lupin (2004), Female Agents (2008), The Chameleon (2010) and Mama Weed (2020), and came before The Money Maker (2026). Isabelle Huppert plays Kearney, with Grégory Gadebois, Marina Foïs, Alexandra Maria Lara, Pierre Deladonchamps and François-Xavier Demaison in supporting roles. The production involved 52 credited cast members and 54 credited crew, and was made by France 2 Cinéma, Le Bureau and Heimatfilm as a co-production between France, Germany and the United States.
The film runs 122 minutes and was released on 1 March 2023. It has a critics' rating of 6.5/10 from 40 reviews, while audiences give it 6.6/10 on IMDb from around 2,100 votes and the same score on TMDB from 189 votes, so the critical and audience reactions are closely aligned. It earned about 4 million USD worldwide.
