What's left behind the scenes

- 20th Century Fox refused to give the "green light" to the "rural film" project, but the script attracted the attention of Phil Gersh – Harrison Ford's agent. Funding was secured thanks to this prominent name.

Although "Witness" touches on the same theme, Weir agreed to participate in the project only after filming of his film "The Mosquito Coast" fell through due to financial problems.
- In the film's most famous scene, a cover version of Sam Cooke's iconic melody "(What a) Wonderful World" performed by Greg Chapman is heard on the radio, not the original.
