What's left behind the scenes

  • Mick Dundee drives a Subaru Outback, the same model that Paul Hogan actively promoted and advertised in the early 2000s.
  • Well-known producer, pianist, and vocalist Anthony Begonia makes a cameo appearance in the beach scene as one of the angry volleyball players in the background, but was never credited in the film's titles.
  • Young Australian Serge Cockburn landed a role in the film after his parents read in the newspaper that a local production company was looking for a boy his age to play the son of Mick Dundee. His parents filmed a short video on a home camcorder of him talking to his grandfather about one of his pets, a lizard named Huffy, and sent it to the producers. According to director Simon Wincer, casting director Maura Fay was simply stunned by his acting talent.
  • Filming took place from August 10 to November 2000 in California, Melbourne, Australia, and the state of Queensland.
