Last Man Standing

Set in a small Texas town during Prohibition, Last Man Standing follows a mysterious drifter and gun for hire named John Smith who arrives in a place dominated by two rival bootlegging gangs, one led by an Irishman named Doyle and the other by an Italian named Strozzi. The town sits on the route by which liquor is smuggled from Mexico, and the two outfits are locked in a violent struggle for control of the trade. Smith offers his services to both sides in turn, playing them against each other while pursuing an agenda of his own.

Walter Hill directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced it with Arthur M. Sarkissian. It is the seventeenth of the twenty-two films he has directed, coming after Wild Bill and before Supernova. Bruce Willis plays Smith, with Bruce Dern as Sheriff Ed Galt, Christopher Walken as Hickey, David Patrick Kelly as Doyle, William Sanderson as Joe Monday and Karina Lombard as Felina.

Released in September 1996, the film runs 101 minutes and had a budget of 67 million dollars, against a worldwide box office of about 47 million. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 63,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 out of 10 from around 1,000 votes, while critics gave it 5.5 out of 10 across 33 reviews.
