Jessie Buckley was initially considered for the role of the main character, but she was busy with other projects, and Emma Mackey played Sophia.
The film was shot in July-August 2023, during the height of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, without notifying the latter’s leadership or obtaining its permission to film. All the actresses in the leading roles in the film were members of the union. Furthermore, during this labor dispute, the film was acquired by the American distribution company IFC Films. SAG-AFTRA leadership did not comment on this blatant violation of union rules at that time, nor subsequently.
