The Pink Panther

Inspector Jacques Clouseau of the French police is convinced he can finally catch a notorious jewel thief known as the Phantom, whose calling card is a single glove left behind at each robbery. The thief's next target appears to be the Pink Panther, a large diamond given to Princess Dala by her father, which she brings with her to a resort in the Alps. What Clouseau does not realise is how close the culprit is to him: the charming Sir Charles Lytton, whose nephew George also schemes to obtain the stone, is the man he is hunting, and Clouseau's wife Simone is involved with him as well. The film follows the attempts of several parties to get hold of the diamond while the inspector remains largely unaware of what surrounds him.

The Pink Panther is a crime comedy directed by Blake Edwards, who wrote the screenplay with Maurice Richlin. It was the fourth film in Edwards's directing career, following Experiment in Terror and preceding Days of Wine and Roses. Peter Sellers plays Clouseau, with David Niven as Sir Charles, Claudia Cardinale as Princess Dala, Capucine as Simone Clouseau and Robert Wagner as George Lytton. The large credited cast also includes Brenda De Banzie.

The film took about 11 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from around 61,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 1,200 votes, a smaller and slightly less favourable sample. A critics' rating of 7.3 out of 10 from 38 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
