A Minecraft Movie

A Minecraft Movie follows four people who are unhappy with their everyday lives and are pulled through a portal into the Overworld, a strange cubic world shaped by imagination. To find their way home they have to learn how this place works, teaming up with Steve, a local expert builder, on a quest that also forces them to rediscover the qualities that make each of them creative.

The film is directed by Jared Hess and written by Hubbel Palmer, Markus Persson and Chris Bowman, with Roy Lee, Jill Sobel Messick and Mary Parent producing. It is Hess's seventh feature, arriving after Thelma the Unicorn and before A Minecraft Movie Squared. Jason Momoa plays Garrett, with Jack Black as Steve, Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry, Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn and Jennifer Coolidge as Vice Principal Marlene.

Released in 2025, the film had a budget of about 150 million USD and took roughly 960 million USD worldwide. Audiences are divided: it holds a 5.6 rating on IMDb from around 155,000 votes and a 6.2 on TMDB from roughly 3,300 votes, while critics gave it 5 out of 10 across 196 reviews, lower than either audience score.
