Saw X takes place between the first two films in the series. John Kramer, terminally ill and running out of options, travels from the United States to Mexico for an experimental medical procedure that he hopes will cure his cancer. The treatment turns out to be a fraud designed to take advantage of desperate patients, and Kramer responds by subjecting those responsible to the traps he has become known for.
Kevin Greutert directed the film, his sixth feature and his third entry in the series, after Saw VI and Saw 3D and a run of horror titles in between. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger wrote the screenplay. Tobin Bell returns as Kramer, with Shawnee Smith as Amanda Young, and Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Renata Vaca and Joshua Okamoto among the supporting cast.
The film was released in September 2023 and runs 118 minutes. Made for a budget of 13 million US dollars, it earned about 113 million worldwide, a strong return for a production of its size. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from roughly 97,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1 from more than 2,400 votes. The critics' rating of 6.5 from 152 reviews places it close to, though slightly below, the audience scores.
