Sniper

Thomas Beckett is a veteran US Marine sniper sent into the jungles of Panama with a mission that depends on a single, near-impossible shot. His superiors pair him with Richard Miller, a civilian marksman whose shooting medals mean little in the field. The two men clash from the outset, and Beckett's reputation for losing the partners assigned to him hangs over the operation.

Luis Llosa directed the film, the first of three features he made in a run that continued with The Specialist in 1994 and Anaconda in 1997. Tom Berenger plays Beckett, with Billy Zane as Miller, J.T. Walsh as Beckett's senior officer, and supporting turns from Aden Young, Kenneth Radley and Reynaldo Arenas among a credited cast of 25. The screenplay is by Michael Frost Beckner and Crash Leyland, and Robert L. Rosen produced. Shot partly in Peru, the film runs 98 minutes and took about 19 million dollars worldwide.

Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 6.1/10 from roughly 27,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2/10 from 489 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1/10 from 13 reviews sits below both audience scores, so the film found somewhat more favour with viewers than with reviewers.
