Short description
Fly Me to the Moon is set in the United States during the 1960s space race, as NASA works to land a crew on the Moon before the Soviet Union. Cole Davis, the launch director for the Apollo 11 mission, faces constant setbacks and a public losing faith in the agency. Into this arrives Kelly Jones, a marketing specialist hired to repair NASA's image. Her publicity efforts clash with Cole's focus on the technical work, and the two find themselves at odds even as an attraction develops. When the White House decides the mission cannot be allowed to fail, Kelly is instructed to prepare a staged lunar landing as a backup, a plan that would undermine everything Cole has worked for.
Greg Berlanti directed the film, his fourth feature following The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy, Life As We Know It and Love, Simon. Rose Gilroy wrote the screenplay, and Scarlett Johansson, who plays Kelly Jones, produced alongside Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn. Channing Tatum plays Cole Davis, with Woody Harrelson, Ray Romano, Jim Rash and Anna Garcia in supporting roles. The production involved 48 credited cast members and 181 credited crew.
Released in July 2024, the film runs 132 minutes. Against a budget of about 100 million dollars, it earned roughly 42 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from around 58,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8/10 from about 1,200 votes, and its critics' rating stands at 6.2/10 from 238 reviews.
