Danny Glover was offered the role of Wes Luger, but he declined. Samuel L. Jackson was then cast as the sergeant.
The film is dedicated to the memory of John Coffey.
A decision to make a sequel was made almost immediately. A slogan was even developed: “Oh come ON, you knew it was coming!” but due to poor box office results, the idea of creating a sequel had to be abandoned.
The film came about as a result of David Rasche and Alan Spencer turning down filming for the 3rd season of the series 'The Hammer'.
The film features the songs “You Really Got Me” (sung by the character of Denis Liri), “We Can Work It Out”, “I’m Popeye The Sailorman”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” (from the repertoire of Queen), and “Love Kills” (from the repertoire of Freddie Mercury).
