The Shrouds

Karsh Relikh, a wealthy businessman played by Vincent Cassel, has been unable to come to terms with the death of his wife Becca, played by Diane Kruger. Using his fortune, he develops GraveTech, a controversial system of shrouds fitted with cameras that let the living watch over their buried dead through an electronic device. One night several graves that use his technology, including Becca's, are vandalised, and Karsh sets out to find those responsible. The film is set in a near future and was written and directed by David Cronenberg.

Alongside Cassel and Kruger, who plays multiple roles, the cast includes Guy Pearce as Karsh's brother-in-law Maury, Sandrine Holt, Elizabeth Saunders and Jennifer Dale. The Shrouds was produced by Saïd Ben Saïd, Martin Katz and Michel Merkt for SBS Productions, Saint Laurent, Prospero Pictures and Saint Laurent Productions, with a budget of 15 million US dollars. It is Cronenberg's twenty-second film as director in chronological order, following Crimes of the Future in 2022.

The film runs 120 minutes and was released in April 2025. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from around 8,700 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 out of 10 from 267 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 6.8 out of 10 from 187 reviews, so reviewers responded more favourably than general audiences did. Its worldwide box office came to about 2 million US dollars, well below its production budget.
