What Happens Later

Willa and Bill, former lovers who parted decades ago, find themselves stranded overnight at a small regional airport when a snowstorm grounds their flights. With no clear departure time, the two discover that the same attraction and irritation that marked their relationship years earlier is still present. As they revisit their shared history and measure the lives they have built against the plans they once made together, they begin to consider whether running into each other again was chance or something closer to fate.

Meg Ryan directed the film and stars as Willa, with David Duchovny as Bill. Ryan wrote the screenplay with Kirk Lynn and Steven Dietz, and the production was handled by Kelly Williams, Laura D. Smith and Jonathan Duffy. It was released in November 2023 and runs 104 minutes.

Made for about 3 million dollars, the film took in roughly the same amount worldwide, a result that suggests a modest theatrical life for a romantic comedy of this scale. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.9 from around 5,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.8 from about 100 votes. A critics' rating of 5.3 from 74 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores, though neither figure points to a broadly embraced film.
