Cotton Queen

Set in a Sudanese village known for its cotton farming, the story follows a teenager named Nafisa. Raised on her grandmother Al-Sit's accounts of resistance against British colonial rule, Nafisa finds herself caught in a struggle for control over the community's future. The conflict begins when a businessman arrives from abroad with genetically modified seeds and a development plan. Nafisa must discover her own strength to protect the cotton fields and her community from these outside influences.

The drama was written and directed by Suzannah Mirghani. The film features a cast including Mihad Murtada as Nafisa and Rabeha Mahmoud as Al-Sit, alongside Talaat Farid, Haram Basher, Mohamed Musa, and Hassan Kassala. A joint production between Germany, France, and Palestine, the project involved several production companies, including the Red Sea Fund, Maneki Films, Film Clinic, and Philistine Films.
