Canary Black

Canary Black is an action thriller about Avery Graves, a senior CIA operative whose life is upended when terrorists abduct her husband. They use him as leverage, demanding that she betray her own country and hand over classified intelligence. Cut off from her team and unsure who she can trust, she reaches out to contacts in the criminal underworld, relying on her training and combat skills as she races to meet the kidnappers' demands.

The film is directed by Pierre Morel, whose eight features begin with District B13 in 2004 and include Taken, From Paris with Love, The Gunman, Peppermint, The Ambush and Freelance before this 2024 release. Matthew Kennedy wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Kate Beckinsale as Avery Graves, with Rupert Friend, Saffron Burrows, Ray Stevenson, Goran Kostić and Ben Miles among the fifty credited performers. It is a British and American production.

Released on 10 October 2024 and running 103 minutes, the film drew a critics' rating of 4.3 out of 10 from eleven reviews, alongside 5.4 from roughly 14,000 votes on IMDb and 6.2 from around 540 votes on TMDB. The gap between the two audience figures reflects a small sample on TMDB set against a much larger one on IMDb, while the critics' score sits below both.
