Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear

Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear is a documentary about how Pixar brought the character of Buzz Lightyear from a toy in the Toy Story films to a human Space Ranger in the 2022 feature Lightyear. The film follows the design work behind this new human version of Buzz, looks at the character's origins and his place in popular culture, and covers the production challenges the Lightyear team encountered while making the movie.

The documentary runs 35 minutes and was directed by Tony Kaplan, who also directed the Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1 (2007) and later Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental (2023). Sureena Mann produced it, and Pixar made it in the United States. Appearing as themselves are Angus MacLane, Pete Docter, Jeff Pidgeon, Jason Headley, Galyn Susman and Anthony J. Greenberg.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 853 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 out of 10 from 243 votes, so viewers on both platforms received it moderately well, with the smaller TMDB group rating it somewhat more favourably than the larger IMDb group. As a short behind-the-scenes documentary rather than a theatrical feature, it functions as a companion piece to the film it documents.
