Sheriff Bryce Hammond uses a SIG-Sauer P226 pistol as his service weapon throughout the film. In the final scene, he is holding a Beretta 92F, it is unknown how it ended up with the sheriff.
The film discusses the "flatworm theory" (which claims that flatworms, when devouring the remains of their brethren, also absorb their skills). This theory is based on a series of experiments that tested how quickly a worm would find the correct path after consuming its predecessor. The results of the experiments were not as conclusive as claimed in the film.
The film had a notable influence on the original computer game "Silent Hill" (1999) by Konami and other games in the series; it was also influenced by the films "Jacob's Ladder" (1990) by Adrian Lyne and "Session 9" (2001) by Brad Anderson.
The Sheriff's Deputies wear sheriff's patches on their shoulders.
Early in the film, when Jennifer and Lisa Payle visit the Snowfield Police Station, a close-up shows the hand of the deceased Deputy Sheriff Paul Henderson and a Beretta 92F pistol. It is clearly visible that the hammer is not cocked, which is impossible, as Henderson fired the weapon, and the hammer is always cocked by the energy of the powder gases during a shot.
