A Family Affair

Zara works as an assistant to Chris Cole, a demanding movie star who treats her as an afterthought rather than a colleague. That situation is already hard enough, but it grows more complicated when she discovers that Chris has fallen for her mother, Brooke. The romance that follows forces Zara to navigate a professional relationship turned personal, with her own position caught between the two of them.

A Family Affair is a romantic comedy directed by Richard LaGravenese, who also made P.S. I Love You and Beautiful Creatures. The screenplay is by Carrie Solomon, and the producers include Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Alyssa Altman. Nicole Kidman plays Brooke, Zac Efron plays Chris, and Joey King plays Zara, with supporting turns from Kathy Bates, Liza Koshy and Wes Jetton among a credited cast of thirty. The film runs 114 minutes and was released in June 2024.

Audience reactions were modest: it holds a 5.4 rating from around 40,000 votes on IMDb and a 5.8 from roughly 762 votes on TMDB. Critics were less positive still, averaging 4.7 from 102 reviews. In LaGravenese's filmography, it follows The Last Five Years and stands as the sixth feature he directed.
