Waist Deep

O2 is a former criminal trying to stay out of trouble, partly because another conviction would mean a life behind bars and separation from his young son, Junior. That plan collapses when car thieves take his vehicle with Junior still inside it. The boy ends up in the hands of a ruthless drug dealer who demands a ransom, and O2 sets out through the streets of Los Angeles to get him back.

Working alongside him are Coco, a streetwise woman, and his cousin Lucky, whose reliability is open to question. Their pursuit of the kidnappers brings them into conflict with the gangs and dealers who control the areas they move through.

Waist Deep was released in 2006 and runs 97 minutes. Vondie Curtis-Hall directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Darin Scott, marking his third feature after Gridlock'd and Glitter. Tyrese Gibson leads as O2, with Meagan Good as Coco, Larenz Tate as Lucky, Henry Hunter Hall as Junior and the rapper The Game as Meat. The film took about 21 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.8 from roughly 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it scores 6.5 from around 293 votes.
