What's left behind the scenes
- The crashed plane shown on screen is not a prop. In 1973, a US Navy Douglas C-117D transport plane actually crashed on a beach on the south coast of Iceland after running out of fuel. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash. It was later revealed that the accident was the pilot's fault (he switched to the wrong fuel tank).
- Filming for the series began in early 2020, but work had to be interrupted when the coronavirus pandemic reached Scandinavia. Filming resumed in May 2020 at a studio in Reykjavik, where interior scenes were shot. After that, the creators moved to the town of Vík, which is usually crowded with tourists from all over the world (not to mention geologists and volcanologists), but was empty in 2020 due to travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
