What's left behind the scenes
- The series is based on Vasily Vedeneev's book cycle, 'Anton Volkov: Especially Dangerous to the Reich'.
- Formally, the series is not entirely about the SMERSH counterintelligence service, as this agency was only created on April 19, 1943, and simultaneously across three commissariats: the People's Commissariat of Defense, the NKVD, and the People's Commissariat of the Navy.
