What's left behind the scenes

The finale of the first season contained hints of a high probability that the project would continue for another two seasons; however, in March 2023, Disney announced the final cancellation of the project. Two days after this announcement, screenwriter and producer Jonathan Kazdan stated that the project was by no means cancelled, that the script for the second season was ready, and that work on the second season was already underway. He also mentioned a one-year hiatus in production to allow the actors time to fulfill their obligations to other projects. In 2023, the series was removed from the Disney+ platform.
Val Kilmer was unable to reprise his role as Martigan due to throat cancer, which caused damage to his vocal cords. Martigan was written into the script as a cameo where only his voice is heard, and he does not appear on screen. Kilmer recorded his lines, and his son, Jack Kilmer, then voiced them, imitating his father's voice.
The names 'Ballantine' and 'Burman' are references to the fantasy genre in general. Ballantine Books is one of the leading American publishers specializing in science fiction and fantasy, and John Boorman directed the fantasy-action film 'Excalibur' in 1981.
