Short description

This equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama tells the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Christina Ricci (who played the adult Misty) was pregnant during the filming of the first season. By the time filming wrapped, she was eight months pregnant.
  • The pilot episode was filmed toward the end of 2019. The remaining episodes of the first season were filmed in the summer of 2021.
  • Sophie Nélisse, who played the teenage Shauna, dyed her hair chestnut and wore brown contact lenses to match the hair and eyes of Melanie Lynskey, who played the adult Shauna.
  • The idea for the series was heavily influenced by the Donner Party and the 1972 FH-227 crash in the Andes—stories of people who resorted to cannibalism in order to survive.
  • It was originally intended that Laura Lee, played by Jane Widdop, would die in the plane crash, but screenwriters Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson liked the actress's performance so much that they decided to expand her role.
  • Teenage Lottie was played by Courtney Eaton, and Eaton's character was required to take Loxipen twice a day. This is a fictional medication similar to the real Loxapine, a drug used to treat schizophrenia.
  • The body of Jackie (played by Ella Purnell) used in the scene where she was eaten was made from breadfruit pulp, maple syrup, and rice paper.
