What's left behind the scenes
- The series contains several references to David Bowie (1947-2016). As with the series "Life on Mars" (2006-2007), of which this project is a spin-off, the title is borrowed from Bowie's 1980 song of the same name, referring to the time period in which the action takes place. "Ashes to Ashes" was Bowie's first single from the album Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) to top the British charts. The record cover depicted Bowie in a Pierrot costume. One of the episodes features Bowie's 1967 single "The Laughing Gnome."
