What's left behind the scenes
- The screenplay was based on Dan Brown's novel 'The Lost Symbol' (2009), the third book in the adventures of Professor Robert Langdon. Sony had planned to release its film adaptation—the third movie in the franchise following Ron Howard's adventure films 'The Da Vinci Code' (2006) and 'Angels & Demons' (2009)—as early as the beginning of the 2010s. However, this endeavor encountered certain difficulties, as Howard openly preferred producing the film over directing it, and Tom Hanks declined the offer to play the lead character again. Work on the project dragged on, and in 2013, Brown's novel 'Inferno' was published; it was then decided to skip 'The Lost Symbol' and film 'Inferno' instead. A significant part of the creative team from the previous films in the franchise agreed to this, including Howard as director and Hanks in the lead role. The series 'The Lost Symbol' serves as a prequel to the movies, and Ashley Zukerman appears on screen as the young Langdon instead of Hanks. Brown, Howard, and franchise producer Brian Grazer served as executive producers.
- It is later revealed that they are the same person, but Zachary Solomon and Mal'akh are played by different actors who share a certain physical resemblance—Kinan Joliff and Bo Napa. In the novel, it is stated that Solomon transformed into Mal'akh through rigorous training and the use of steroids. He changed so much that even those close to him no longer recognized him. Some events in the series have been shifted in time.
- The series was canceled after the first season, although the storyline suggested the possibility of a continuation.
- Filming was scheduled to begin in March 2020, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
