What's left behind the scenes

The series' executive producer Adam McKay and actor Will Ferrell had been friends and partners for a quarter of a century until 2019, when it all suddenly came to an end. It all started because Ferrell desperately wanted to play Jerry Buss in the series 'Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,' which was just beginning pre-production at the time. McKay didn't object and cast Ferrell in the role, but then changed his mind and gave the part to John C. Reilly without telling Ferrell. Ferrell was furious and severed all business ties with McKay. McKay hoped that he would cool off and change his mind, but only after several months did he realize that Ferrell was far angrier than he had imagined.
Bo Burnham was originally cast as Larry Bird, but in August 2021, he was forced to leave the series due to commitments to other projects.
