What's left behind the scenes
- The piercings that Spinner, played by Shane Kippel, displays in the series are real. Before each new procedure, the actor asked the show's creators for permission. This was especially relevant before his tongue piercing. Kippel was only allowed to do it once they were convinced it would not affect his speech. In contrast to Kippel, the piercings of Stacy Farber, who played Ellie Nash, were not real.
- Charlotte Arnold auditioned for the roles of Manny, Emma (a character who was later removed from the plot entirely), and Anya, but she was cast as Holly Jay.
- Excluding documentaries and guest stars in scripted television projects, Adam became the first transgender person in television history whose role was given significant attention in the plot.
- Many episodes were subject to additional censorship before being released in the US (jokes about homosexuals and hints of homophobia in general, as well as scenes with sexual subtext and explicit scenes, were removed). The director's cut of these episodes can be found in the DVD releases.
- Alexa Rose is the only cast member of the series to have played two different characters. Initially, she played Angela, Craig's stepsister, but this character was written out after the 5th season. In the 11th season, Rose appeared in a new role as Tori.
- The series was filmed in Toronto, in the Canadian province of Ontario.
- After the first season premiered in 2001, Shane Kippel lost more than 22 kg. The actor stated that he saw himself on screen and felt ashamed. As a result, his character—who started as just a basketball team manager—became a true athlete and began playing football, field hockey, and basketball.
- Deanna Casaluce initially auditioned for the role of Paige, but played Alex in the third season.
