Short description
It's been nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team, led by physicist Ben Song, has been assembled to restart the project in hope of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it. Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it.

What's left behind the scenes
- Ernie Hudson played the role of a character who was played by Christopher Kirby in the original series (1989-1993, episode "The Leap Home: Part 2 (Vietnam) — April 7, 1970").
- The series takes place in the same reality as the original show, but some of the key time-travel rules established in the project from the turn of the 1980s and 90s do not apply here. Additionally, the new project lacks Ziggy, the computer that controls the quantum accelerator.
- Initially, the main character was to be given the surname Prasad. When Raymond Lee was cast in the role, his name was changed to "Song" because the actor is of Korean descent. He was planned to be a deeply religious person, but this was also changed over time, with the script instead playing on the main character's lack of faith.
- Scott Bakula (who played Sam Beckett) and the producers later revealed that the original script for the reboot's pilot episode included a guest role for Bakula; however, the actor soon declined to appear in a guest capacity in the absence of Dean Stockwell (who voiced the artificial intelligence), who passed away in 2021. The producers stated that Bakula would be allowed to appear in the series at any time if he wished to do so.
- The second season ends almost exactly as the fifth season of the original project was planned to end before the decision was made to cancel the series permanently.
