What's left behind the scenes
- The idea for the series originated with executive producers Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci during a lunch. Mendes and Iannucci were simply exchanging thoughts about a future joint project, but neither of them could come up with anything substantial. At one point, Mendes mentioned his work on the Bond films "Skyfall" (2012) and "Spectre" (2015), which he directed, describing them as a "magnificent mess." This remark gave Mendes and Iannucci the general idea for the series, and John Brown was hired as the showrunner for the future project (credited as a writer).
