Short description

Johnny Bravo tells the story of a biceps-bulging, karate-chopping free spirit who believes he is a gift from God to the women of the earth. Unfortunately for Johnny, everyone else sees him as a narcissistic Mama's boy with big muscles and even bigger hair. In short, he is the quintessential guy who 'just doesn't get it.' No matter what he does, or where he finds himself, he always winds up being his own worst enemy.

What's left behind the scenes

  • According to Van Partible, the name Johnny Bravo was borrowed from an episode of the series 'The Brady Bunch' (1969-1974). It is also a reference to Partible himself, whose middle name, Giovanni, is the Italian version of Johnny.
  • In the seventh episode of the first season, one of the characters gives the main character the middle finger. Many viewers claim this means nothing because, in most episodes, this character is drawn with four fingers, and only has five when clenching their hand into a fist.
  • Starting with the second season, the series moved away from being didactic and focused on blatant farce. The main character became even less intellectual than before, and Carl and Pops were added to the regular cast. With the arrival of director Kirk Tingblad, the project's viewership increased significantly.
  • The character Johnny Bravo was originally conceived as an Elvis Presley impersonator in Van Partible's unreleased short film 'Mess O'Blues' (1993). Aaron City, where Bravo lives, is named after Presley's middle name.
  • The main character's hairstyle is a reference to Brad Pitt's hair in Tom DiCillo's musical drama 'Thelma & Louise' (1991) [Note: likely referring to 'Johnny Suede'].
