Short description

High school can be hard enough with just academics alone, but when love enters into the picture, it can unravel into a comedy of errors. Tenma has fallen for oblivious Karasama and class delinquent Harima has fallen for Tenma. While this unlikely trio winds their way through the pitfalls of love and high school life, their friends and classmates become caught up in the chaos.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The movie 'Comet Wars,' which Harima watches during his depression, is a blatant parody of the famous 'Star Wars' saga, featuring the same characters and ships, although Princess Leia is a blonde in 'Comet Wars'.
  • The fight between Harima and Karasuma, depicted in the manga drawn by Harima, is a parody of the anime series 'Dragon Ball Z'.
  • The short story about Akira Takano moonlighting as a secret agent parodies numerous gangster action movies, while the shootout scene is another parody of the movie 'The Matrix'.
  • The scene where Mikoto sees Hanai training in the mountains—hanging upside down and moving water from a lower vessel to an upper one—is a parody of one of Jackie Chan's early films, 'Drunken Master' (1978), where Jackie performed a similar exercise to prepare for learning a combat technique called 'Drunken Fist'.
  • One of the fishermen, with the letter 'F' on his hat, is voiced by mangaka Jin Kobayashi.
  • The scene where Harima dodges the arrows sent by Temma toward Karasuma is a parody of a similar scene in the movie 'The Matrix,' where Neo dodges Agent Smith's bullets.
  • In the scene where Harima tries to reunite with the rest of the group by hitchhiking during the field trip, Devil's Tower from the movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' can be seen in the background.
  • In the scene where Harima and Yakumo draw manga by candlelight while listening to the radio, the voice of the famous Japanese radio host DJ Yoshima is heard, and the voice-over in the prehistoric episode belongs to the mangaka, Jin Kobayashi.
