What's left behind the scenes
- Rachel Bilson, who played Zoe, played a prank on her co-star Wilson Bethel, who played Wade. After filming a kissing scene, she used makeup to draw a cold sore on her lips, took a photo, and sent it to Bethel, accusing him of having supposedly infected her.
- In the plot, Rachel Bilson's character is expecting a baby. The actress herself was pregnant during filming. In October 2014, Bilson gave birth to a daughter.
- Abroad, series are often broadcast under titles different from those in their country of origin. Translated titles are not always accurate. If translated back into English, the series aired in Brazil as "Choice of the Heart," in Serbia it was known as "Southern Heart," in Finland as "In the Heart of the Country" (or "Country of Hearts"), in Portugal as "Doctor in Alabama," in Hungary as "Doctor of Heart Affairs," and in Russia as "Zoe Hart from the Southern State."
- Before filming, Wilson Bethel spent a week in the Southern United States to learn a Southern accent.
- Wilson Bethel was the first actor to audition for the role of Wade Kinsella. Series creator Leila Gerstein and executive producer Stephanie Savage, who were present at the auditions, cast Bethel in the role almost at first sight.
