What's left behind the scenes
- An adaptation of the novel of the same name by James M. Cain.
- The project's director and screenwriter, Todd Haynes, decided that since every scene of the series is written from the perspective of the main character, the lead actress, Kate Winslet, must necessarily appear in every scene of all five hour-long episodes. The actress later candidly admitted that these shoots (which lasted about eighteen weeks) were the most difficult of her career since Titanic (James Cameron, 1997).
- The mini-series is set in Los Angeles, but it was filmed in New York. The spring was unusually cold, and to prevent the palm trees from withering in the chill, they had to be warmed in greenhouses.
