What's left behind the scenes
- The word "Spain" is never used once in the series.
- In the 15th century, there were five states on the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal, Castile, Aragon, Navarre, and Granada). Today, they (with the exception of Portugal and part of Navarre) are part of Spain.
- Veronica Echegui, Irena Escolar, Adriana Ugarte, and María Valverde were considered for the role of Queen Isabella.
- Actor Rodolfo Sancho, who plays King Ferdinand, is 11 years older than actress Michelle Jenner, who plays Queen Isabella. In reality, Isabella was one year older than her husband.
- The third season was intended to devote considerable time to the discovery of America by Columbus's expedition, but the project's budget did not allow for such filming. The creators tried to find co-producers in Latin American countries, but the negotiations were unsuccessful.
- Filming of the TV series began in the summer of 2011 and took place in several Spanish cities: Cáceres, Madrid, and Segovia.
- Filming for the second season began in February 2013. Part of the filming took place at the Alhambra in Granada.
