What's left behind the scenes
- Darren E. Burroughs has very light brown hair. He had to dye it every two weeks.
- Elaine Miles got the role of Marilyn by chance. She was accompanying her mother, Armenia Miles, to an audition (her mother was trying out for the part) and suddenly landed the role herself.
- The series is set in the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska, but was filmed in Roslyn, Washington. The characters named Roslyn and Cicely are named after the town's founders.
- The Virlowind mother and daughter are played by Armenia and Elaine Miles.
- When Rob Morrow left the series, Paul Provenza was brought in to play Dr. Joel Fleischman. They considered explaining the difference in appearance by saying Fleischman had gotten a new haircut. Eventually, they abandoned this idea to avoid upsetting Morrow's fans, and Provenza became Dr. Philip Caporale. After Morrow's departure, the series lasted for only 8 more episodes.
