What's left behind the scenes
- It took Anthony Minghella (1954–2008) two years to prepare and write nine scripts for the original series.
- Steve Barron was chosen to direct the pilot episode. Jim Henson (1936–1990) was already familiar with his work from the adventure fantasy musical 'Labyrinth' (1986). It was Barron who convinced Henson to shoot on 35mm film rather than video and developed his own unique style. Directors of accompanying projects were instructed to work in this same style. Anthony Minghella later utilized one element of this style (silhouettes) while working on the drama 'The English Patient' (1996).
