Short description

The off-kilter, unscripted comic vision of Larry David, who plays himself in a parallel universe in which he can't seem to do anything right, and, by his standards, neither can anyone else.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the beginning of the first season, Jeff Garlin was still recovering from a heart attack. He later stated that the filming process was exactly what helped him make a full recovery.
  • When Larry informs his wife Cheryl about the latest troubles, Cheryl Hines was actually unaware of them, just like her character. She hadn't been shown the full script; she was only introduced to the parts that directly concerned her.
  • Each scene took an average of 7-8 takes—which is a lot for a series with such a tight filming schedule.
  • Each episode of the series lacks a formal script; instead, there is only a detailed plot outline.
  • In 2003, a man named John Catalan was arrested for murder in Los Angeles. He maintained his innocence and even offered to take a polygraph test, though he was refused. He also had an alibi: Catalan claimed that at the time of the murder, he was at the stadium watching a game between the Dodgers and the Braves with his daughter. His lawyer requested the stadium's surveillance footage but did not see Catalan there. Soon, however, he discovered where else footage from the stadium cameras could be found—in the sixth episode of the fourth season of the series "Curb Your Enthusiasm." The episode was filmed that very night at Dodger Stadium, and although there are no shots of them in the final cut, the lawyer spotted both Catalan and his daughter, and based on the timestamps, determined that Catalan could not possibly have been the killer. When told that his show had saved a man from trial and potentially a death sentence, screenwriter Larry David responded: "Well, now I can tell everyone that I've actually done something useful in my life, even if I didn't realize it myself."
