What's left behind the scenes
- John Francis Daly (Sam Vier) was the only actor who matched the age of his character (14 years old) during the filming of the television series.
- The pilot episode was filmed in a real school; after the series was picked up for broadcast, sets were built that almost entirely replicated the school's interior.
- Busy Philipps originally auditioned for the lead role of Lindsay Weir, but she ultimately landed the role of Kim Kelly.
- The series was filmed in California, despite being set in the state of Michigan. If you look closely, you can see palm trees in the outdoor scenes, which do not grow in Michigan.
- In many scenes, the actors improvised to add realism to the dialogue.
- The creator of the series, Paul Feig, was inspired by the production 'Berlin Alexanderplatz' (1980) when coming up with 'Freaks and Geeks'.
- Linda Cardellini and Busy Philipps were both born on June 25th, but Linda was born in 1975, and Busy in 1979.
- Lizzy Caplan auditioned for the roles of Lindsay and Kim, but she eventually landed the role of Sarah.
- Kaley Cuoco was considered for the role of Cindy Sanders.
- Jesse Eisenberg was considered for the role of Sam Weir.
- Lauren Ambrose was considered for the female lead role.
- Shia LaBeouf was considered for the role of Neil Schweiber.
- In 2007, the series was included in Time magazine's list of the '100 Best TV Shows of All Time,' and in 2008, it ranked 13th on Entertainment Weekly's list of the '100 Best TV Shows of the Last 25 Years.'
- James Franco and Busy Philipps hated each other in real life, despite playing a couple in the series.
