What's left behind the scenes

  • Originally, the series was intended to consist of 65 episodes.
  • When the number of episodes reached 70, Fox decided to bring the X-Men story to a close. However, Saban later released another season on their own, without the sponsorship support of Marvel and Graz Entertainment. This explains why the final 6 episodes differ so significantly from the previous 70.
  • In the comics (X-Men (v1) #14), the Sentinels were roughly the same height as humans. In subsequent issues, as well as in the animated series, the Sentinels began to be depicted as giants.
  • In the comic, the duel between Callisto and Storm was fought with knives. In the animated series, it was fought using staffs.
  • Episodes airing after the premiere of "The Phoenix Saga" were often broadcast out of order. Since a number of episodes were created by different animation studios, the writers decided to abandon the linear storytelling used in seasons 1-2 and instead try to rely on "standalone" stories. Nevertheless, they could not avoid confusion, releasing episode 5.05 "Longshot" and 5.04 "No Mutant is an Island" only two years after they were originally scheduled to air.
  • When the episode “A Rogue's Tale” first aired, it was titled “I Remember Mama”.
  • Episode 04, “No Mutant is an Island,” was intended to explain Jean Grey's “resurrection,” serving as a bridge to the “Dark Phoenix Saga”; however, it was released only two years later, after the saga had ended, leaving viewers confused.
  • Initially, the writers did not plan to resurrect Morph. However, the character's unexpected popularity forced the creators to bring him back in the second season—albeit only as a villain.
