Season 2 Thackery’s absence, a lack of affluent patients, and financial missteps have led to a decision by the hospital’s board to shutter the downtown location and move uptown, while everyone grapples with both personal and professional challenges.

What's left behind the scenes
- The first season was filmed in 73 days.
- The series originally included a short scene that was later cut. When Algernon leaves Cornelia, he bumps into her fiancé, Philip, who asks him for medical advice regarding their wedding night.
- In episode 5 of season 2, Robertson and his son discuss the arrival of the liner Aquitania in New York. In reality, it was not built until 13 years later, in 1913.
- The prototype for the character Tekeri was the real-life Dr. William Halsted, who lived during that period and also struggled with an addiction to cocaine and morphine.
- The wedding scene was actually filmed at night.
- Dr. Stelli Burns, founder and CEO of The Burns Archive (the largest private collection of medical photographs taken between 1839 and 1950), provided significant assistance as a medical advisor to bring greater realism and authenticity to the hospital and surgery scenes.
- In 1850, the Quaker organization Society of Friends in Pennsylvania founded the Woman's Medical College. It became the first educational institution where women could receive a medical education. As early as 1851, the college graduated five female physicians. According to the events of the series, there were no female doctors in the US at all between 1900 and 1902, and nurse Lucy Elkins (Eve Hewson) could only dream of such a unique opportunity.
