What's left behind the scenes
- In the franchise title, Akame is the heroine's name, meaning "red eye" (her sister Kurome, accordingly, means "black eye"). "Kill" is an English phonetic adaptation introduced for commercial purposes of the original Japanese verb kiru, meaning "to cut or slice." This verb appears in the title of every anime episode.
