What's left behind the scenes

  • To record the audio for the first episode, where the Wolf is drowning, choking, and gurgling, a glass of water was provided for Anatoly Papanov. However, he demanded a bucket of water for greater authenticity—and ended up getting soaked from head to toe.
  • When the screenwriters first began brainstorming the chase film, many options for the main characters were considered: the Fox and the Rooster, the Hare and the Fox, and others. After numerous debates, the writers settled on the Wolf and the Hare.
  • After creating the first six or seven films, the creators of 'Nu, Pogodi!' decided to end the series. However, this sparked such a storm among viewers and a flood of indignant letters to the studio that it was decided to continue the endless chase.
  • Before the series began, a first pilot plot featuring the Wolf and the Hare was released as part of the 'Merry Carousel No. 1' (1969) almanac. Directed by Gennady Sokolsky, it served as the prototype for the main series that launched later that same year.
  • After the cartoon was released, Anatoly Papanov was jokingly given the title of 'Honored Wolf of the USSR'.
  • Originally, Vysotsky was supposed to voice the Wolf, but he was not approved by the 'higher-ups.' Nevertheless, in the first episode, the Wolf whistles Vysotsky's 'Song of a Friend'.
  • A single 10-minute episode of 'Nu, pogodi!' took an entire team nine months of work, as it required drawing 15,000 frames.
  • The Wolf acquired his famous hairstyle and characteristic appearance only in the second installment of the cartoon. In the first installment, his hairstyle and appearance differ from the version familiar to viewers.
