Short description
The story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early ’70s through the mid ’80s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world that existed there until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market ended the bawdy turbulence of the area.

What's left behind the scenes
- The first season takes place in 1971-1972, the second in 1977-1978, and the third in 1984-1985.
- The relationship between Eileen Marell (Candy) and Harvey Wasserman was written into the script after it became clear that Maggie Gyllenhaal and David Krumholtz enjoyed working together.
- Initially, Candy was intended to be a producer rather than a director, but after the first season, the writers decided to go with director.
- Improvisation during the filming process was not permitted. Any deviation from the script had to be discussed first with screenwriters George Pelecanos and David Simon.
- Generally, if an actor signs a nudity waiver, they cannot back out at the last moment, even if they suddenly start feeling uncomfortable. During the production of the series, this rule was not strictly followed, and the showrunners preferred to be accommodating to the actors.
