What's left behind the scenes
- After filming the first episode of the second season, showrunner Clyde Phillips left the series because lead actor Billy Bob Thornton was unhappy with the overall direction of the project. Work on the project was even halted so that the writers could create new storylines, and the number of episodes was reduced from 10 to 8.
- The Ocean Lodge Hotel, where Billy resides, and the bar Chez Jay, which he visits for a drink, actually exist and are located in Santa Monica, California.
- In the pilot episode, Billy Bob Thornton's character persuades his daughter to attend Indiana University in Bloomington and lists famous alumni. Mentioned are Ernie Pyle (journalist, 1900-1940), Hoagy Carmichael (songwriter, conductor, actor, 1899-1981), Lee Majors (actor), Bob Knight (basketball coach), Dick Enberg (sports commentator), David Anspaugh (director), Joe Buck (sports commentator), and Jane Pauley (television journalist). His arguments failed to impress Denise, played by Diana Hopper.
