What's left behind the scenes

  • The same sets were used to create Ciri's room in Kaer Morhen and Yennefer's visions of family. In this way, the creators wanted to hint at the future close relationship between the characters.
  • When Henry Cavill first heard about the upcoming series, he began demanding that his agents arrange a meeting with the Netflix producers. Eventually, a meeting was organized, but the series creator, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, initially rejected Cavill. She subsequently auditioned 207 actors for the role of Geralt, but none were a fit. As she wrote the script, she constantly heard Cavill's voice delivering Geralt's lines.
  • Preparing for the role of Geralt, Henry Cavill trained extensively in sword fighting and built up his muscle mass.
  • According to producer and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Henry Cavill embodied the role so well that he hardly needed to read the lines written for his character.
  • Henry Cavill performed all of his own stunts.
  • In the winter of 2020, while filming the second season of the series, Henry Cavill injured his hamstring while running. Despite the acute pain, the actor did not disrupt the filming schedule. He sought treatment for the injury in the early morning hours to be on set by 7:00 AM.
  • In the second season, Geralt carries two swords: a silver one and a meteoritic one. The creators went through 25 design options for the latter before settling on the final version. They produced 15 rubber replicas of each sword for the combat scenes.
  • The team came up with unique designs for many types of elven weaponry. Specifically, the armory department created 12 original weapon designs and 150 unique items just for the elven extras.
  • For one of the scenes in episode 7 of season 2, the team used 500 live and 2,000 artificial cockroaches. The real insects were monitored by four specialists who recounted the cockroaches twice a day.
  • Composer Joseph Trapanese wrote three versions of Dandelion's new song: a melancholic one, an angry one, and a narrative one that told a specific story. He and actor Joey Batey ultimately chose the angry composition for the series, referring to it among themselves as "Burn, Witcher, Burn."
  • Costume designer Lucinda Wright drew inspiration from Puss in Boots' hat from the movie "Shrek 2" while working on Dandelion's new headwear for the second season of the series.
  • Ane Chalotra was offered a body double for the bed scenes. After seeing the double's work, Chalotra volunteered to perform them herself, on the condition that the shots be close-ups and only from the waist up.
