What's left behind the scenes
- Roger E. Mosley held a helicopter pilot's license, but he was not permitted to perform aerial stunts during filming.
- The roles of Zeus and Apollo were played by several Doberman Pinschers, who were handled by professional dog trainers. Both dogs were males, although females were used in some episodes.
- Lieutenant "Mac“ MacReynolds was killed off in the 3rd season because the actor who played him, Jeff McKay (1948-2008), had signed a contract for the project "Tales of the Gold Monkey" (1982-1983). Later, McKay approached the series creator Donald P. Bellisario with a request to return to the show, despite the fact that his character had died in a car bombing orchestrated by a KGB agent in the 3rd season. Bellisario accommodated the actor; McKay went on to play a ghost, an adventurer, and a Mac look-alike.
- Magnum, T.C., and Rick wear rings featuring the Cross of Lorraine (a cross with two horizontal bars), which served as a symbol of the French Resistance from 1940 to 1944. All these characters once served together in Vietnam, and Vietnam was once a French colony.
- One of the recurring characters—Higgins' friend named Agatha—was played by Gillian Dobbs (1929-2001). Agatha in "Magnum, P.I." was her only film and television role.
- The main character drives a Ferrari 308 GTS (model production years 1975–1985).
