Short description
A gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century. The series follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who immigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances, and becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown’s most powerful tongs.

What's left behind the scenes
- On April 15, 2021, it was announced that the series had been renewed for a third season and that its production would now be handled by the streaming service HBO Max, as the HBO-owned premium cable network Cinemax had stopped producing original content. In December 2023, the series was canceled.
- Lee, O'Hara, Bolo, and Mei Ling (characters in the film) were named after characters from Robert Clouse's action movie 'Enter the Dragon' (1973).
- The general idea and concept for the series were conceived by Bruce Lee.
- The character Ah Toy (played by Olivia Cheng) is based on a real person. Like her fictional counterpart, Toy was a famous and wealthy woman. She arrived in San Francisco at the very beginning of the Gold Rush. Ah Toy was one of the first Chinese women in San Francisco and is claimed to have been the first Chinese prostitute in California.
- Andrew Koji, who played the lead role, had to learn all of his lines in Chinese by ear.
