What's left behind the scenes
- Producer Dick Wolf had long been preoccupied with the idea of a series about the FBI and had pitched it to the NBC network. Specifically, he proposed making the project a spin-off of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." However, NBC rejected the idea, but the CBS media conglomerate jumped at it, and the project became Wolf's first series not to air on NBC.
- The FBI's motto consists of the words "Fidelity," "Bravery," and "Integrity," the first letters of which form the FBI abbreviation (Federal Bureau of Investigation).
- At some point in every episode, the character played by Jeremy Sisto is shown with a pencil—either tucked behind his ear or using it to point at something (the latter of which happens even more frequently).
