What's left behind the scenes
- The old man in the morgue is reading the novella "The Metamorphosis" (1912) by Franz Kafka (1883-1924).
- Many of the songs featured in the series belong to the so-called "narcocorrido" genre. It is characterized by lyrics that tell stories of drug trafficking, poverty, threats against enemies, hatred for the police, and a general romanticization of the criminal lifestyle.
- While preparing for the role, Alejandro Edda, who played El Chapo, attended the court hearings of the real El Chapo—drug lord Joaquín Guzmán—in Brooklyn.
