What's left behind the scenes

Screenwriter Christopher Kayser and director Marc Webb began promoting the idea for the series in 2014. The premium channel Showtime (owned by ViacomCBS) showed interest in the project, and a script was written. However, the corporation later decided against filming the series.
All the actors involved in the series had to learn ASL (the primary sign language used in the deaf community of the US and English-speaking parts of Canada) to be able to communicate with Sean Bird (a deaf film and television actor who played Sam).
